Minister of the Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė met with Bret Johnsen, one of the CEOs of SpaceX, in the USA and presented Lithuania.
"Lithuanian companies are already cooperating with this space company, and Starlink was launched in Lithuania. We want this intensive cooperation to grow and strengthen. It is obvious that the company also appreciates our country, as Lithuania has never had a meeting of this level before," said Minister of the Economy and Innovation A. Armonaitė.
The Minister met with representatives of the US space company SpaceX in Lithuania in September last year to discuss their activities. Two years ago, the company established Starlink in our country, providing broadband satellite internet services.
Last year, the Ministry of Economy and Innovation presented a concept for the development of the Lithuanian space sector. Lithuania aims to become a competitive provider of space services and to develop solutions and technologies based on advanced research.
The country's scientific institutions and space companies are actively involved in the European Space Agency (ESA) and other international programmes. Since last year, an ESA Business Incubator (ESA BIC Lithuania) has been operating in Lithuania to support the growth of promising space start-ups. The incubator is expected to select and support 20 start-ups over the coming years, helping them to develop their ideas into high value-added space businesses.
The Innovation Agency has a successful Lithuanian branch of Space Hub, whose mission is to develop Lithuania's space ecosystem in a multi-faceted way.
